Be Part of Our Book!

Have you ever found yourself in a confusing or frustrating cross-cultural situation at school? With a student? A parent? Or maybe a colleague?

We thought so. And we’d love to hear your story.

Why? Because our experience indicates that many K-12 teachers want to increase their intercultural competence to the high level needed to effectively teach 21st century students.

But there just aren’t many tools out there that are practical, based on solid intercultural theory, and focused on K-12 education. We seek to fill this gap by creating a book and online materials for current and pre-service teachers.

And who better for teachers to learn from? Other teachers. That’s where you come in. And that’s why we’d like you to share your cross-cultural experiences with us.

Who’s the “We” in Us?

We’re Drs. Darla Deardorff and Cate Brubaker. We’ve both been teachers in the U.S. and abroad, and our passion is working with teachers who want to grow their intercultural competence. We both live in North Carolina, but we’ve worked with teachers all over the world.

Will you share your cross-cultural experience(s) with us?

All you need to do is complete the very short form below. Here are a couple helpful hints:

  1. Keep it brief (500 words or less would be great).
  2. Include the key points of what happened, a short reflection on how the situation was resolved, and the lessons that can be learned from that particular situation.
  3. Your story can be about any cross-cultural interaction or experience you’ve had with a student, colleague or parent. What’s important to you about the situation is what’s important to us.

If we choose to include your story in our project, we’ll send you an email in May 2010. We will not share your story or your contact information with anyone at anytime.

We look forward to reading about your cross-cultural experience! Our contact information is below if you have any questions.
