Welcome back to Schultüte Week! (Wondering what a Schultüte is? Stop here and read Monday’s post. )

Each day this week we’re pulling a nifty resource out of our virtual Schultüte of Cross-Cultural Resources for Busy Educators.

Yesterday’s resource offered 16 cross-cultural games, projects, and resources – all free and on the internet.

Today we have another downloadable pdf resource for you. This resource (pdf) features the O-DIVE model, which can help your students understand perspectives — their own and others’.

In this resource (pdf), I talk about a cultural experience I had when I started teaching in the U.S. Then, I explain the O-DIVE model and how I applied it to that cultural experience. Finally, I discuss how the O-DIVE model can be used with students.

Here’s the beginning of my story:

The first few weeks I taught at Indiana University in the United States, I was very puzzled by my students’ behavior.

They behaved nothing like Romanian college students. As their instructor, I could never tell if what they were doing was normal, or not. Was it respectful or disrespectful? Was it appropriate or not?

I just never knew.
