Are you familiar with the Peace Corps Coverdell WorldWise website? What a treasure trove of resources for K-12 educators! (I use their cross-cultural understanding activities all the time, and not just with kids.)

I just discovered a game called Welcome to Wanzuzu. In this game, students are challenged to talk to villagers and gather information in order to solve problems villagers are facing (e.g. water contamination).

Two things I like about this game: (1) students can practice their cross-cultural skills as they virtually interact with villagers and (2) the animals talk.

Play the game and you’ll see what I mean.

There are also related lesson plans and resources for teachers (several include stories and podcasts):

  • Challenge 1: Water Contamination
  • Challenge 2: Sanitation and Disease
  • Challenge 3: Microfinance
  • Challenge 4: Barren Fields
  • Challenge 5: Malaria
  • Challenge 6: Soil Runoff
  • Challenge 7: Educating Village Girls
  • Challenge 8: Agroforestry

Have you used any of the Peace Corps Coverdell WorldWise materials in the classroom? Which ones do you recommend to other teachers?

We love connecting with our readers! Why not…
