This School Snapshot was submitted by high school student Ching Han, who is originally from Malaysia and started at the Canadian International School (CIS) in Beijing, China in January 2009. The Canadian International School was founded in 2005 and has students from over 40 countries.

Walking, bicycle, by car. There also school bus.
School bus service is provided at a fee.

Daily Schedule
What’s the daily schedule like?
Monday to Thursday is 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday is 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
If students eat a meal at school, when, where, and what do they eat?
There are 2 types. One is called nutrition break and is around 10:40-11:00 a.m. The second one is the lunch break, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Students eat in the cafeteria in school, which is located in the basement. We usually eat Chinese food, Italian food, some snacks like cookies, milk, juice, panini, muffins.
The school offers both Chinese and western options. Take a look a the Kindergarten menu and grade 1-12 menu.

Clothing
What are the rules regarding the clothing that students wear to school?
Students wear uniforms, as in this photo:

Parents
How are parents involved in school life?
At the school-held science fair, parents are invited to come to school to see some students’ work. Also, they ask any parents who are interested in teaching or coaching students in football, basketball, etc.
About Ching Han: I’m kinda like the new student in my school (CIS). I came to that school in January 2009 and it was my first time ever study overseas. Me and my sister and dad came to Beijing, China because my dad got a promotion in his job and transferred from Malaysia (my hometown) to Beijing. At CIS, I’ve gotten to know many friend from variety of places like America, Korea, Hong Kong, African regions, Italy, Brunei, Japan, Turkey, Spain and more.
