First thing this morning, I found Maya’s comment on the recent Checking Your Assumptions post and just can’t wait until Foto Friday to share this beautiful video called “School Chale Hum” showing kids all over India going to school.

Here’s some information about the video from YouTube:

192 million children between 6-14 years of age across 1.1 million places in India are not going to school.

This film for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (Universilisation of Elementary Education) addresses the needs of these children.

The film catches the moment when children all across India from Kashmir to Kerala wake up in the morning and run to go to school.

Read more about the concept and treatment of the video here.

Beautiful, isn’t it? I’ll be humming School Chale Hum all day. :)

There are several more links and photos I’ll share in another post. In the meantime, check out Maya’s blog (here’s her post about CulturallyTeaching) and Pratham Books, which is a non-profit trust that publishes high quality books for children at affordable prices and in multiple Indian languages.
